Research Areas

  • Hydroelasticity
  • Engineering Mathematics and Computation
  • Wave blocking and triad resonance
  • Linear and Nonlinear Wave propagation
  • Coastal Hydrodynamics
The primary research interest of Prof. Trilochan Sahoo is to develop and generalize mathematical tools for wave-structure interaction problems arising in Ocean Engineering. He has made a seminal contribution to hydroelasticity and coastal hydrodynamics, especially flexural gravity waves and waves past porous structures. He promotes interdisciplinary research in mathematical sciences, emphasizing solving physically realistic hydroelasticity and coastal hydrodynamics issues. He has published 143 papers in refereed journals including JFM, Physics of Fluids and Proc. Roy Soc London Ser A and 107 papers in conference/workshop proceedings including ICIAM, ICTAM, OMAE, ISOPE and IWWWFB. He has written a monograph entitled Mathematical Techniques for wave interaction with flexible structures, published by CRC Press, and has delivered more than 100 talks at different conferences/workshops. He has 3288 citations with an H-index of 33 and an i10-index of 94. He has guided 15 PhD students, more than 75 UG and PG projects, nine post-doctoral fellows/RAs, and has 22 years of teaching and research experience. Three PhD students and one PDF are currently working with him. He has handled many sponsored projects and is collaborating with researchers in India and abroad. He serves as associate editor of Ocean Engineering and Marine Energy, editorial board member of Applied Ocean Research, Frontiers in Energy Research and Journal of Engineering for Maritime Environment. He serves as guest editor of Fluids, Water, and Frontiers in Energy Research and reviewer of various journals. He is a fellow of the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology in Mathematical Science since 2018. He is featured among the top 2% of Global Scientists for the last two consecutive years on Stanford University's list. Besides, he has contributed to various administrative activities in the capacity of Warden, Coordinating Warden, research coordinator, Professor-in-Charge, Head of Department and Associate Dean (Human Resources).
