  • Thin film rechargeable batteries
  • Quantum Materials and Applications
  • Spintronics and magnetic field sensors
  • Multiferroics and Multicaloric effect
Research Theme: Group focuses on the exploration and development of quantum materials and nanoscale systems; besides fundamental physics, applied research is carried to find essential solutions in electronic, medical and energy sectors.

Quantum materials and Applications: Investigating various strongly electron correlated systems, geometric magnetic frustrated systems and understand structure‐property relationship, multiferroic phenomenon for specific applications like 1. electric field controlled spin reversal magnetization devices and 2. Energy efficient solid refrigeration like multicaloric effect. Exploring non-equilibrium nature of the Pulsed laser deposition technique for stabilizing metastable materials and artificial materials for realizing novel functional materials for spin transport applications.

Energy Storage:There is huge demand for better energy storage technologies especially for renewable energy and large-scale applications (UPS, LMV, HMV, Solar Plant back up and Grid power storage) that are also economically feasible. Working on Na-ion batteries as the existing Li-ion technology offer high energy density lithium reserves across the world is low and hence the cost associated is high. Today, need for micropower souce has become indispensable in electronic industry, sensor monitors, life saving medical implants, strategic defence and information technology applications. Li-ion batteries use liquid based electrolytes are bulky and cannot be integrated with electronic devices. Alternate solution would be solid state rechargeable batteries combined with renewable source or wire-free charging at remote locations. At IIT KGP, Dr Adyam has developed a solid state thin film battery laboratory
