  • Parameterization- Land Surface Processes
  • Air Pollution&Regional Climate Modeling
Natural hazards such as Thunderstorms, fog, tropical cyclones, air pollution, urban rising - causing heat waves, heat islands and flash floods which impact the occurrenceof occurrence of weather events causes severe socio-economic impact.  I am working on physical and dynamical mechanisms of weather events and improve the boundary layer schemes in modeling tools for better forecast. Efforts are on in understanding the oceanic response in the genesis of tropical cyclones, their translation and their impact on the coastal vulnerability.

Efforts are also on in formulating boundary layer fluxes in low wind conditions, one of the lacunae of existing atmospheric models, to improve the forecasting of monsoon systems. Equally important is the coastal as well as complex terrain influence of air pollution dispersion, occurrence of fog  detrimental to health and safety of the people using numerical models as well as observations. We worked on existence of Atmospheric Rivers over Indian region which are responsible for heavy precipitation events. Also attempted the influece of climate indices on these atmospheric rivers.

We are actively working on urban set ups on city scale which show profound influence on weather extremes. The influence of climate change on the occurence high intensity of thunderstorms over Gangetic West Bengal and  future projections using regional climate modeling system is going on.  I have planned and prepared good scientific programmes and few of research problems are being studied as my PhD scholars at our UCAR laboratory of our Centre.

We have published good number of research publications on these and other aspects of Atmospheric and Oceanic processes in reputed international journals (visit our publications list in web-page). We are in active scientificc collaboration with national and international scientists . We are open to new research ideas and programes which are of the national interest. Sincerity, committment  and dedication is our motto.
