Susanta Banerjee received his M. Sc., M. Tech., and Ph. D. degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, in 1988, 1989, and 1993. He started his research career with the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), Govt. of India, and worked there as a Scientist from 1992 to 2004. Dr. Banerjee was an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at the Technical University Munich from 1997 to 1999. In 2004, he joined JFWTC, Bangalore as a Lead Scientist. In 2006, he moved to IIT Kharagpur and became a full professor in 2011. His primary research interest includes designing and preparing new polymers and membranes for low-k applications, gas, liquid separation, polyelectrolytes for fuel cells, and photovoltaic applications. His research resolved many critical issues in membrane-based applications. He has published 235 original research papers in peer-reviewed international journals and made more than 156 presentations at scientific conferences. He has delivered several invited talks in India and abroad. He has several (08) granted patents (as an inventor) in his credit. He has contributed 14 chapters and written one book published by Elsevier. He is the recipient of several awards and medals. A few of them are the Defence Technology Spin-off Award, GE Management Award, Materials Research Society of India (MRSI) Medal, Fellow of West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology, and Institute Chair Professor by the IIT Kharagpur. For the second consecutive year (2020 and 2021), his name appeared in the list of the world's top 2 percent most-cited scientists released by Stanford University. He is well known for mentoring postgraduate students and has supervised 25 Ph.D. and 40 master's students. He is the principal investigator of several extramural funded research projects and industrial consultancies and collaborates with several research groups in Germany, the USA, and Russia.
