My research interests are focused in the fields of geochemistry, isotope geology, geochronology and petrology. I have established a state-of-the-art radiogenic isotope facility that houses a Multi Collector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (MC-ICPMS: Neptune Plus from Thermo Fisher Scientific), a quadrupole ICPMS (iCap-Q, Thermo Fisher Scientific) and a 193 nm Excimer Laser Ablation system (New Wave Research) and a clean chemistry laboratory. Some of the major themes on which I work include:
(1) In-situ U-Pb geochronology of accessory minerals (zircon, rutile, monazite etc.) using LA-ICPMS
(2) In-situ Hf isotope measurements in zircon, B isotopes in tourmaline, Li isotopes in tourmaline/micas/pyroxene/amphibole using LA-MC-ICPMS
(3) In–situ measurements of trace elements in mineral fluid inclusions
(4) The Hadean/Archean crustal evolution of the Indian shield
(5) Proterozoic crustal accretion and growth of the Indian Shield
(6) Rare Earth Element mineralization in carbonatite and peralkaline granitoids
(7)Textures, microstructures and geochemistry of rocks from bolide impact craters
(8) Replacement reaction mechanisms and mass transfer processes in minerals
(9) Cr-isotopes in Archean Banded Iron Formation and the oxygenation of the Archean atmosphere
We are the first in the country to carry out in-situ U-Pb dating of zircon, rutile, and baddeleyite, Hf isotope measurements in zircon, Boron and Li isotope measurements in tourmaline, clinopyroxene and micas.
