I was working on the growth and characterizations of thin films of semiconductors and ferromagnetic metals during my Ph. D and Post-doctorate. I grew Ge NANOSTRUCTURES on Si and polymer surfaces under HV conditions and studied using X-ray reflectrometry, Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). I installed Cantilever Beam Magnetometer (CBM) and Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) techniques under UHV conditions and studied ferromagnet/semiconductor heterostructures for spintronic applications.
Recently I am working on transition metal doped Ge, ZnO & SnO2 based diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) and evolution of impurity phases such as ferrites and Sn-doped Fe2O3. I have developed cantilever beam magnetometer (CBM) in our laboratory to study mechanical (stress) and magnetic properties of bulk, nanoparticles, ribbon and thin film. Using optical CBM (ex-situ), we have demonstrated null, positive and negative magnetostrictive strains in a single system of Ni-Zn ferrites. We have studied transport properties of ferromagnet/semiconductor heterostuctures and demonstrated magnetic diodes for spintronic applications. Recently the CBM set is upgraded introducing provision for electric field and demonstrated electric field controlled magnetization in ferromagnetic/Ferroelectric heterostructures.
