Correlation among electrons can give rise to new states of matter which are significantly different from the conventional metallic or band insulating states. Examples of such phases of matter include superconductors, Mott insulators, topological insulators amongst others where electrons have their properties modified primarily due to interaction with atomic lattice and/or other electrons. Modification of the samples environment, in the form of changes in temperature, pressure, doping levels and magnetic field can significantly alter the nature of the energy spectrum and thus lead to fundamentally new physics with implications in basic as well as applied science research. Understanding and exploring the nature of such exotic states of matter is the main aim of my research.
