Dr. Gourav Dhar Bhowmick has expertise in bio-electrochemical system-assisted recirculatory aquaculture wastewater treatment techniques besides separation/fractionation of water-related isotopes, viz. 2H/1H, 18O/16O, through thin-film composite reverse osmosis membranes for water isotope enrichment and elucidating the transport mechanism of water through these membranes. He has conceptualized integrated designs of the microbial fuel cell (MFC) - membrane bioreactor (MBR) and moving-bed biofilm (MBBR) - assisted MBR-based systems for treating real-life wastewater along with bio-energy recovery.
He now aims to develop a bio-engineering interface for aquaculture in areas like engineering and design of aquacultural facilities, in-service experience, commissioning, operation, materials selection, and their uses in recirculatory aquaculture systems. Another area of his research interest is the smart aquaponics system for urban farming. Other than that, Dr. Bhowmick is also working on the end-of-pipe treatment of marine and freshwater recirculating aquaculture systems with a focus on denitrification, phosphorous removal, biogas production in line with residual resources engineering for environmental remediation.
