The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) was established in 1973 as Industrial Management Centre and later elevated to a full-fledged department in the year 1983. The department offers (i) B.Tech (4-year) in Industrial Engineering, (ii) Dual Degree (5-year) - B.Tech. in Industrial Engineering and M.Tech in Industrial Engineering and Management, (iii) Dual Degree (5-year) - B.Tech in Mfg. Science & Engg. and M.Tech in Industrial Engineering and Mangement,  (iv) M.Tech (2-year) in Industrial Engineering and Management, (v) Master of Science (MS) and (vi) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes. In addition, ISE coordinates the Dual Degree (5-year) programme on Quality Engineering Design and Manufacturing with mechanical and industrial electronics verticals. At present (2016-17), the department has 280 UG (BTech+DD), 38 MTech, 4 MS and 40 PhD students.The department is well known across the world for its excellent research in the fields of Data Analytics, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Quality Engineering and Process Transformations, Information Systems and E-Business, System Thinking and Policy Planning, Human Factors Engineering and Ergonomics, Safety Analytics and Virtual Reality, and Healthcare Systems. The department has world class laboratories in the above areas of research and teaching.The students are recruited by industries in Analytics Firms, IT/ Software services, Manufacturing/ FMCG Consultancies and Financial firms. Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), the pioneer of industrial engineering education in India with a legacy of over 40 years of service to the nation has continually reinvented itself in terms of academic curriculum, teaching pedagogy and research infrastructure to keep pace with the developments in the global scenario and needs and requirements of the nation in general and the industries and service organizations in particular.

ISE provides an excellent opportunity to the students to build their career in an inter-disciplinary area of Industrial and systems engineering with a strong focus on real life industry problems. The courses are designed with a strong analytical and process orientation for the design, procurement, operations & production, delivery and recovery of goods and services. Students are exposed to the complete spectrum of analytical tools for Decision Analysis, Performance Improvements and Process Transformations including analytics, OR, statistics, multivariate data analysis, simulation and soft computing. Students receive hands-on experience on various latest software packages like CPLEX, SAS, R, MATLAB, MS-Project, Arena, DELMIA, QUEST and Mathematica, and technologies like Analytics, Virtual-Reality and ICT. Graduates are recruited by the leading multinational companies in analytics, finance, insurance, logistics, manufacturing, IT and capitalists firms. We are consulting and carrying out sponsored projects in collaboration with leading service & manufacturing industries, and several leading foreign universities. We provide the most conducive environment of learning by linking theoretical concepts with its practical applications to takeup challenging real life problems.

Prof. Tiwari is ranked at the 4th position in the list of 100 leading researchers in the field of Operations management as per the recent paper published in the renowned journal International Journal of Production Research.
