A first of its kind in the IIT system, the School of Education is established at IIT Kharagpur with the objective to offer the Integrated Teacher Education programme (ITEP). The ITEP is a 4-year integrated programme under which the students will have a dual major undergraduate degree in a specific discipline along with B.Ed. Keeping in view the mandate of the National Education Policy 2020 and subsequent initiatives by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the School of Education at this institute offers B.Sc-B.Ed (Secondary) with Major in four different disciplines namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics. Apart from preparing teachers for the reconfigured school education system in the country, the ITEP will help impart disciplinary knowledge in the abovementioned subjects so that the students will gain in-depth knowledge.
