My research interests span postcolonial fiction and theory, media, cultural and performance studies, Punjab and Sikh Studies, diaspora, migration and mixed race. I frame my research within the discourses of postcolonialism, postmodernism, nationalism, globalization, ethnicity, regionalism, transnationalism and cosmopolitanism using multidisciplinary approaches.
My research on postcolonial literature, critical media studies and popular culture in South Asia within a cross-cultural context and my analyses of public discourses on ethnicity, race and religion in the context of South Asian cinema and popular culture are internationally recognized.
I have worked across disciplines and cultures in different research and cultural milieus and formed strong intercultural networks through my international collaborations in the form of joint research, publications and teaching with multidisciplinary research groups not only in Canada, Australia and New Zealand but also in Africa and Asia.
