I am a sociolinguist with interests in language teaching, morphosyntax and developing resource for language technology. I am interested in syntactic variation, language change perspectives of minority languages and code mixing in everyday life. I am also interested in the language conflicts in the learning spaces of children who speak the so-called 'non-standard' languages.
I have been working on Rajbanshi language for last 12 years. I have worked on the community children's language problems in classroom, Linguistic Human Rights perspectives of the community's children and development of classroom resources with the understanding of morphosyntactic analysis of the language. I have also worked on musical notation of Tagore songs as a discourse to enquire the power relations in performance spaces, and the language-in-education policies for the first language clasrooms of West Bengal.
For the last two years, I was primarily working on documentation of some indigenous and endangered languages of West Bengal. In language docuementation research, I am specifically interested in attitudes of dominant speech communities towards minority languages and the morphosyntactic changes due to language contact. I am also interested in understanding the role of the attitudes of teachers towards the minority languages in a classroom and helping them to build strategies to combat language barriers in teaching-learning space.
